Topaz is believed to have been first found by the Romans on the Island of Topazas, in the Red Sea, over 2,000 years ago. They is thought it could protect its wearer from enemies and help one avoid poisons. Topaz was worshipped by the Ancient Egyptians as it was thought to hold mystical powers given by Ra, the Sun God. It is portrayed as a gem of healing and peace and to bring strength, wisdom and courage.
