This hand woven, fair trade, silk scarf is produced by a women's co-operative in Eastern Thailand. The scarf is woven in rich tones of rusty orange and royal blue. The scarf is finished with a black fringe.
The interplay of silk thread and colour gives delicate tonal changes to the scarf.
The artisan group which makes these pure silk scarves, like the group which produces the hand painted silk and cotton mix scarves shown elsewhere on the KIENA website, is recognized locally for the superior quality of the items it makes. The villagers undertake the entire production process; they feed the silk worms the mulberry leaves, collect the cocoons, unravel the silk thread, dye the silk, create the designs and hand weave the textiles.
The silk used is a raw silk yarn and as such it has many irregularities which are woven into the scarf to give it its 'slubby', natural look.
